I love themed nurseries so I’m sharing with you 11 quotes and sayings that would transform into wonderful nursery themes for your baby’s room. Of course, you’re not obliged to stick to one but I did with Amelia’s room and I think it’s great for a few reasons:
It helps to keep you focussed – There are so many cute things to buy to decorate a baby’s nursery, so having a theme can help keep you on track.
It helps to create a cohesive look – A theme can really help you to achieve a nice looking space. One thing I did was to create a board on Pinterest and use it as my style inspiration for colours.
It’s fun! – Putting together a nursery or a child’s bedroom is fun. You want to create a space that is playful but also acts as their own little sanctuary. If you choose a theme that excites you, it will be a hell of a lot of fun seeing it come to fruition.
1) “Let Her Sleep for When She Wakes, She Will Move Mountains”
I used the quote “Let Her Sleep for When She Wakes, She Will Move Mountains” to theme Amelia’s Nursery. I chose it because it explains everything I want for my little girl. Yes, to sleep hahah BUT more importantly I want her to make her mark on the world!
It exudes strength and confidence in one’s own abilities. You can also change the pronoun so it reads “Let Him Sleep for When He Wakes He Will Move Mountains”.
From a quick Google it appears that this quote was based on something Napoleon Bonaparte said about China. Quite random, but it works extremely well as a quote to feature in a nursery.
Theme ideas: Mountain mural, Mountain shaped cushions, grey/white/navy/purple, Wood furniture, Bears, Deer, Pine trees.
2) “You Are My Sunshine”
More of a lyric than a quote, “You Are My Sunshine” makes for a beautiful gender neutral theme. Many new parents will probably recall their own parents or family members singing this lovely song to them. This is why it makes such a wonderful and heartfelt idea for decorating a baby’s nursery.
It is the perfect quote for showing how your little babe brightens up your world.
Theme Ideas: Sun, Yellow, Rainbow colours, Clouds, Sheet music decal, Raindrops, Sunflowers.
3) “You Make Me Happy When Skies Are Grey”
This song really is a good one for nursery themes, isn’t it!? “You Make Me Happy When Skies Are Grey” also makes a wonderful quote and is inspiring in a completely different way. It is a great excuse to use the cloud motif, which is really popular for baby rooms.
It gives a real sense of calm and love for your child.
Theme Ideas: Clouds, Grey, White, Soft and fluffy materials, Raindrops, Umbrellas.
4) “Oh, The Places You’ll Go”
“Oh, The Places You’ll Go” is a book by Dr Seuss that details all the amazement that the world has to offer. This would make an exciting theme for a nursery and you could use Dr Seuss colours as inspiration.
There are also plenty of other great Dr Seuss quotes that could be used such as:
- “A person’s a person, no matter how small”
- “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
- “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”
Theme Ideas: Primary colours, Stripes, Bold patterns, Dr Seuss cartoons, Bookshelves.
5) “In a Field of Roses, She is a Wildflower”
The meaning behind the quote “In a Field of Roses, She is a Wildflower’ would make a powerful statement for a little girl’s nursery. It would lend well to a floral theme, which is often a symbol of femininity.
I like the idea behind the quote though as I think it is inspiring and encouraging of a unique personality. Unlike cultivated flowers, wildflowers are wild, strong and do not need maintenance or intervention. They are free and thrive that way.
Theme Ideas: Flowers, Floral patterns, Pendant lights, Cane furniture, White, Pastel colours.
6) “Be Brave, Little One”
The quote “Be Brave, Little One” often shows up in wall art in nurseries. The world is sometimes a scary place and this encouraging and caring phrase shows that we will help guide our child through it.
From a quick Google “Be Brave, Little One” is actually part of a song from the Disney movie ‘The Rescuers’. I used to love that movie as a kid but I don’t really recognise the song.
The use of the word ‘Brave’ along with the imagery of bears (and the occasional arrow) also works well since the Disney Pixar film ‘Brave’ features these two motifs heavily.
Theme Ideas: Bears, Arrows, Wood, Fake logs, Trees, Woodland animals, Check pattern, Green, Grey.
7) “I Love You to the Moon and Back”
You’ll probably know the quote “I Love You to the Moon and Back” from the children’s book ‘Guess How Much I Love You’. It is a gorgeous phrase that states that the love you have for your little person is unimaginably large.
It works well as a nursery theme and allows you to incorporate moons (obviously!) and other out of this world imagery like planets, stars and solar systems.
Theme Ideas: Moon, Stars, Solar System, Dark colours, Cream, Light up moon, Metallics.
8) “Our Greatest Adventure”
The quote “You are Our Greatest Adventure” or more simply “Our Greatest Adventure” is a bold statement about how parents feel about their new baby. This is a perfect theme for the first baby of a family and adventurous imagery is a really fun idea to play with.
I love the idea of incorporating hot air balloons as I think they look super cute. Old fashioned biplanes also work well in conveying a sense of adventure. If transport isn’t really your cup of tea, I found some great inspiration that includes maps of the world, which may appeal to the travellers amongst us.
Theme Ideas: Hot air balloons, Planes, Trains, Map of the world, Globe, Sky, Compass, Flags, Binoculars,
9) “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. Do You Know How Loved You Are?”
Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star is a rhyme that is known far and wide so it makes sense that stars are one of the most popular nursery themes. “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. Do You Know How Loved You Are” is a nice little rhyme that would look fantastic as a wall hanging.
Of course the star shape is a classic way to stay true to the theme but what about a more realistic constellation map?
Theme Ideas: Stars, Constellations, Stargazing, Telescopes, Fairy lights, Navy blue, Metallics.
10) “Born to Be Wild / Stay Wild My Child”
I’ve combined these two since I think they’d both work really well on the wall of a safari or animal themed nursery. Animals make a wonderful addition to a nursery since they are fun and visually striking.
“Stay Wild My Child” has a boho feeling to it and suggests that you want your child to stay free and uninhibited. “Born to Be Wild” is the title of a song you’ve most likely heard of by Steppenwolf. It’s a rocking tune that includes the lyrics “Lookin’ for adventure, and whatever comes our way…” which is a great motto for life!
Theme Ideas: Animals, Safari, Neutral colours, Khaki, Animal print, Foliage, Stuffed animal toys, Feathers.
11) “Just Keep Swimming”
The quote “Just Keep Swimming” probably doesn’t even need an introduction! Of course, it was famously said by the character Dory from Finding Nemo. I think this quote resonates with so many people old and young because it’s really what life is about.
It’s a good reminder to be positive even when things get tough. It’s something important to teach your children and frankly I think this is a good one for mum or dad to look at daily too! Although you could go full Finding Nemo themed I think this quote would tie in beautifully with a ocean and beach inspired decor.
